About Our Ingredients - Healing Herbs and Oils
We believe the ingredients make the product. Here is a list of the herbs and oils that we use in our products and their benefits on your body. We don't dilute our recipes with any cheap fillers, synthetic fragrances, or preservatives. We aim to grow most of these herbs ourselves over the summer (organic), or we source them from local farmers and or distributors. We make all of our herbal oil infusions (solar) and tinctures using only the best organically grown plants. The ingredients that we use nourish the skin and provide the essential vitamins and essential fatty acids the skin craves. We never use any cheap filler oils, synthetic fragrances, palm oil, or harsh preservatives.
100% grass-fed Tallow – All of our tallow comes from 100% grass-fed cows raised on small family farms. While it is super important for us to receive the highest quality tallow, it is equally important to support local families and farms. Man-made toxins found in conventionally raised cows makes the fat from non-organic fats unfit to nourish your skin. Tallow nourishes your skin. It is health promoting and has a cumulative effect, which means the more you use it, the more soft and supple your skin becomes.
Think moisturized, flexible, soft and glowing skin!
Our skin cell membrane is made up primarily of fatty acids, tallow has the most similar similar fatty acid profile. This results in thorough absorption of the tallow balm, and assimilation of the vitamins and fatty acids into our own skin, truly feeding your skin.
Organic Olive Oil – Olive oil is superb for moisturizing the skin, containing 3 major antioxidants and hydroxytyrosol which prevents free radical damage to the skin. Because olive oil is highly adulterated, we only source organic food grade olive oil to use in our products.
Castor Oil - Draws out impurities and has a slight drying effect which balances well with heavy moisturisers. We add castor oil to our beard balms and oils.
Organic Essential Oils – We only use the highest quality essential oils. These organic essential oils are carefully selected for their skin restoring properties. Far from the common “fragrance oils” commonly found in subpar cosmetic products, these plant essential oils can cause various neurochemicals to be released in the brain, true aromatherapy as well as healing and rejuvenating properties for the skin. We are knowledgeable about safe essential oil dilutions and contraindications.
Calendula - We use calendula in our Splendidly Better Beard Balm, Pawsitive Relief Dog Balm and Redneck Reparative Salve. Calendula is known throughout the world as a powerful healing plant. It is most commonly used on minor cuts, scrapes and burns, as well as rashes and bug bites. It is very gentle on the skin and may help to ease dryness, cracks, and itching. You will find it in most healing salves, creams, lotions and soaps for this reason.
Comfrey - We use comfrey in our Splendidly Better Beard Balm, Pawsitive Relief Dog Balm and Redneck Reparative Salve. Comfrey is a potent anti-inflammatory wound healer and bothe the root and leaves can be used. People often refer to is as "knitbone", and it most commonly used externally as a poultice for wounds, sores, burns, and fractures. It makes an excellent salve and it will speed healing and promote the growth of new skin cells.
Spruce Tips - We use spruce tips in our Burnt Pine and Whiskey Beard Oil, B3 Moustache Wax and Splendidly Better Beard Balm. Spruce needles are very aromatic and also have antimicrobial and immune stimulating properties. These tree tips are packed with vitamin C and electrolytes and when they are infused in a carrier oil they have the most amazing, zesty smell. Spruce tips promote wound healing and can be used topically for the treatment for open wounds and cuts, athlete’s foot, cold sores, burns, rashes and other skin infections such as eczema.
Plantain - We use plantain in our Splendidly Better Beard Balm, Pawsitive Relief Dog Balm and Redneck Reparative Salve. Plantain has been used as a panacea in some Native American cultures and with some very good reasons. Many of its active constituents show antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, as well as being anti-inflammatory and antitoxic. The leaves, shredded or chewed, are a traditional treatment for insect and animal bites and the antibacterial action helps prevent infection and the anti-inflammatory helps to relieve pain, burning, and itching.
Shea Butter: We only use certified fair trade Shea butter. The butter is hand processed and uses no chemicals or additives. Shea butter is great for moisturising your skin. It helps in the treatment of acne and blemishes, helps prevent hair loss and it is of great help in reducing razor irritation and bumps.
Bees Wax: Bees wax helps to lock in moisture and provide an extra layer of protection from the elements. It has anti-bacterial properties and can be helpful in reducing dry itchy skin. We source our bees wax from local farms.
